New service area opens at the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main
31 March 2025 // The last few weeks have been spent restructuring, programming and testing - and now everything is ready. The German National Library was the first national library to introduce a self-service area for lending, storage for reuse and returns of media, and is now also doing so at its second location in Frankfurt am Main.
New Chief Information Officer:
Wolfgang Stille assumes responsibility for digitisation
4 March 2025 // On 1 July 2025, Wolfgang Stille will take up the newly created post of Chief Information Officer (CIA) at the German National Library, thus assuming a significant part of the responsibility for the strategic further development of digitisation and information technology at the German National Library.
Restored reading rooms / Redesigned service area / User fees
11 February 2025 // The Humanities Reading Room and the Natural Sciences Reading Room at the German National Library in Leipzig will reopen to users and visitors at 11:00 on 24 February 2025 following a comprehensive renovation.
German Exile Archive receives press artist Emil Stumpp’s estate and art archive
5 February 2025 // The German National Library’s German Exile Archive 1933–1945 is delighted to add the estate and art archive of Emil Stumpp to its collection. Stumpp was one of the Weimar Republic’s leading press artists.

Architecture firm CODE UNIQUE wins the contract for the extension of the German National Library
8 January 2025 // In January 2025, the architecture firm CODE UNIQUE Architekten GmbH won the contract for the realisation of the German National Library’s fifth extension in Leipzig.
